The club is obviously reviewing its events in the light of the developing coronavirus situation and advice. Due to the current restrictions we are unable to advertise group activities for the time being. We have postponed the meets that were scheduled for March to June to 2021. We will post further updates when possible. In the mean time, stay well and keep fit within the guidelines.
Sandy broke new ground for an interesting January day walk by starting at Hatton Cross Bus Station. We soon left the planes behind, following the London Loop through surprising open parkland, and along rivers and the Grand Union Canal. We popped up back into suburbia at Uxbridge to enjoy a pint at the end.
Thanks to Anne for a great festive day walk in surprisingly good weather, if a tad muddy in places (OK, so the path was well under water at one point). Picture again courtesy of Tony – near Tanner’s Hatch with Polesden Lacey in the background.
Tony reports that the Litton Cheney trip was very good with some sunny but wild weather down on the Dorset coast, and a cosy YHA hut. Everyone lent a hand in one way or another to make for a very successful event, thanks to all. Picture at Hardy’s Monument on the Saturday morning.
With thanks to Tony L for providing some photos from his vast library, this is a quick post to fill in some of the gaps in our 2018-19 activities, starting with this nice view of the Derbyshire dales from the pre-Christmas outing last December. We had well-attended visits to the Lakes in May and September making the most of the variable weather. […]
Once again our AGM will be at the Norbiton, 16 Clifton Rd, Kingston upon Thames KT2 6PW at 8pm on Thursday 21 November. Come earlier for pizzas and beer. Remember that you need to have paid your 2019-20 subscription to vote in the AGM.
Various people who were on the Canary Islands trip gave me an account of it over a curry last night. I can report that the walking was excellent, including at least two walks from our accommodation on the north side of the island. This was quieter than the south but with less good weather as the group discovered when they ventured further afield into the sunshine. There was only one […]
13 of us showed up in Seathwaite, and with the prospect of a soggy weekend, we prepared for the worst. Friday confirmed our expectations, but by the time we got out (late) on Saturday, the rain had cleared, and some of us enjoyed good views between scurrying low cloud. Different groups set off for Green Crag, White Pike and Caw, but bitterly cold winds sent us scuttling back to warm […]
OK you can’t tell from the picture of the hut on the front page, but it was a triumph over the grim weather that all 11 attendees from the NKHC and STMC climbed Ingleborough or Whernside on Saturday. High winds kept us off the tops on Sunday but we had a better day of it around Austwick and Malham. We also visited some excellent pubs, with Saturday’s dinner at the […]
See the events page for day walks, weekends and social events in the next 3 months (and weekends after that of course). It looks like plenty of people showed up for a last 2018 walk at Hindhead Common. Thanks to Heong via Chris for the photo.
We are reinstituting club pub evenings, starting on 17 January at the Norbiton in Clifton Road, Kingston. You are most welcome to come along if you are interested in joining the club. Details to be finalised but the webmaster will aim to be there by 7.30.
Despite unpromising weather at the start, Linda tempted 14 people on to the November day walk. The weather soon dried up and we enjoyed exploring Chobham Common, little known to most of us even though closer to home than many that we visit. A mix of Surrey heathland and wooded areas, it made a welcome change, even though the hills (OK, the hill…) didn’t tax us too much. We visited […]
